Hearts JV blast Paris

PARIS — Peyton Bushue and Brandon Loy scored touchdowns on defense, and the Effingham junior varsity football team had little trouble improving to 5-0 with a 33-0 victory Monday at Paris.

Bushue stripped the ball from a Paris running back, then returned it 35 yards to the end zone to help the Hearts to a 15-0 lead at halftime. Loy’s touchdown came on a second-half interception return.

Zach Miller had 87 rushing yards on just six carries, and scored twice. Quarterback Kevin Daugherty threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Bushue for the Hearts’ other touchdown.

The Hearts had 285 yards of offense, including 170 rushing yards.

Andy Lustig led the Hearts with 12 tackles, and Trent Barnhart had a fumble recovery.

The Hearts will look to go 6-0 when they host Mattoon on Monday.
