Deputies arrest three wanted for anhydrous thefts

EFFINGHAM — Three people indicted last week on charges of illegally possessing anhydrous ammonia have been arrested.

Rachel S. Priest, 37, of Newton, and Daniel E. Pickens, 30, and Deborah Rogers, 46, both of Wheeler, were all arrested by Effingham County sheriff's deputies Monday on warrants issued after their indictments by an Effingham County grand jury.

Priest and Pickens were transported to Jasper County, while Rogers remained in Effingham County Jail Tuesday in lieu of $100,000 bond.

All three were indicted last week on multiple counts of possessing or attempting to possess anhydrous ammonia, a key component in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Court records indicate both Rogers and Pickens face mandatory prison sentences if convicted as a result of their respective prior records.

All three could face up to 15 years in prison for the Class 1 felonies.
