BROWNSTOWN —
The threat allegedly made by a Brownstown High School student against another student turned out to be a hollow one, authorities said Friday.
Brownstown District 201 Superintendent Adam Buzzard said in a letter to parents Friday the student, who he declined to name, had allegedly threatened another student through the Facebook social media site.
After bringing the student into the high school office, Buzzard said, Fayette County authorities were called.
Buzzard said it was quickly determined the student was not armed. Consequently, he said, the building was not evacuated or locked down.
"We did not have to evacuate or lock down the school because the student in question was under supervision in our office and we determined that he was not armed and not an immediate threat to anyone," Buzzard said.
The superintendent said Fayette County authorities arrested the student. Sheriff Aaron Lay said through a deputy he could not comment further.
Buzzard said student privacy laws and the ongoing status of the investigation prevented him from making further comment.
Buzzard said the school implemented its safety plan in response to the alleged threat.
"We took immediate action to resolve this threat according to school district policy and our school safety plan," he said. "The safety and welfare of all our students, faculty and staff are a top priority in our school district."
