EFFINGHAM —
A metal device found in a vacant Effingham home Thursday was not a bomb as originally feared, authorities said.
Workers cleaning at the old Frank Wall home, 200 W. Eiche Ave., found a metal canister with a protruding fuse and visible wiring in the living room and immediately backed away from the scene. Effingham police and fire personnel arrived at 3:30 p.m. and almost immediately made the decision to call in a bomb technician from the Illinois Secretary of State's Police.
