The Dieterich school complex won't be the site of a wind exploration station after all.
Superintendent Cary Jackson told the Unit 30 Board of Education Monday Western Illinois University personnel had found a private landowner to host the station. Jackson said the timing of the project coupled with the need for board approval kept the school from being the first choice for the station.
In action taken Monday, the board formally requested Jackson begin working on the 2013-14 budget. Jackson told the board that it would be necessary to have a budget deficit unless cuts were made or revenue increased.
In other news, the board approved facility-use requests from three local Lutheran churches, St. John's, St. Paul's and Grace, to use school facilities for their annual sunrise service set for March 31.
The board also agreed to let TopSpin Volleyball Club use the gym at times to be arranged. In addition, the board approved use of the gym by the Dieterich Educational Foundation for an alumni basketball game on April 6.
The board also agreed to re-hire junior-senior high school Principal Kevin Haarman and grade school Principal Kathy Pattenaude for the 2013-14 school year.
Also Monday, the board agreed to set high school graduation for 1 p.m. May 12 and junior high promotion for 7 p.m. May 15. Both dates are tentative, Jackson said.
