ST. PETER —
Laura E. Hollmann, 86, went to her heavenly home on Jan. 25, 2013. She died peacefully at home just five months after losing her husband and the love of her life, Erwin.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, St. Peter, with the Rev. William Emrick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pagel Funeral Home, St. Peter, and one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials are requested to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hour ministries, St. Peter Cancer Support Group or the donor's choice. .
Laura was born on March 23, 1926, to Arthur and Bertha (Berg) Mercier in Effingham County. On Oct. 19, 1947, Laura was united in holy matrimony to Erwin Hollmann in St. Peter Lutheran Church with Rev. F.J. Duecker, officiating. The Lord blessed them with the gift of three sons and a daughter and 64 years of marriage together. Erwin preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 2012. Laura was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she volunteered as a braille worker and made quilts for mission work. She had worked as a live-in housekeeper for Dr. and Mrs. Miller Greer in Vandalia before marriage and continued as a housekeeper and caretaker for Mrs. Greer, while raising her own four children. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers and her chickens. She was well known for baking delicious pastries. But most importantly she loved and took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Grandma La-La."
Laura is survived by three sons, David (Dolli) Hollmann of Fort Wayne, Ind., Ron (Sara) Hollmann of Vandalia, Jim (Kay) Hollmann of Quincy; one daughter, Vickie Sloan of Humboldt; five grandchildren, the Rev. Josh (Amie) Hollmann of Jackson Heights, N.Y., Adam (Nicole) Hollmann of Berkley, Mich., Craig Hollmann of Quincy, Kelly (R.J.) Plas of Lincoln, Neb., and Justin Sloan of Charleston; great-grandchildren, Elijah Hollmann of Jackson Heights, N.Y., James and Avery Hollmann of Berkley, Mich., and Samantha, Emily and Andrew Plas of Lincoln, Neb.; brother-in-law, Bill Stine; sister-in-law, Doris Mercier; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Harry Mercier; her sister, Helen Stine; brother-in-law, Walter Reiss; and sister-in-law, Irma Reiss.
