Ralph VanDyke

MASON — Ralph Eugene VanDyke, 88, of Mason, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, with Ben VanHyning officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, Clay County Cancer Support Group or the donor's choice. Ralph was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Clay County, the son of Clarence and Bertha (Cameron) Vandyke. He was united in marriage with Maxine Adams on Feb. 18, 1946, in Effingham, and to this union was one son and one daughter. Ralph was employed by Illinois Department of Transportation for 24 years and also enjoyed farming.

He is survived by his son, Jerry VanDyke and wife, Elizabeth, of Decatur; daughter, Jene' Brentlinger and husband, John, of Flora; grandchildren, J.R. Brentlinger and wife, Nikki, of Freeburg, and Jamie Lewis and husband, Billy, of Burnt Prairie; great-grandchildren, Jase and Gentry Brentlinger, Will Lewis and Halle Lewis; special acknowledgment to Ralph's caregivers, Ruby Sapp and Jeanne Schoenhoff.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence and Bertha VanDyke; wife, Maxine VanDyke on Feb. 4, 1999; and brother, Robert VanDyke.
