MULBERRY, Fla. —
Frank Branson Rainey, 85, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, due to congestive heart failure at his home in Mulberry, Fla.
A celebration of life service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at St. David's Episcopal Church, 145 E. Edgewood, Lakeland, Fla., conducted by the Rev. Rob Moses. Cremation was provided by Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes, Lakeland, Fla. Interment will be in St. David's Columbarium, following the service. In lieu of flowers, Frank requested that donations be made to St. David's Episcopal Church Building Fund. The family would like to thank Good Shepherd Hospice for their support and
care for Frank and the family during his end of life care.
Frank was born July 28, 1927, in Petersburg, to Frank Branson Rainey Sr. and Helene Sturhahn Rainey. Frank graduated from Petersburg Harris High School and entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the Seabees at the end of World War II, receiving the World War II Victory ribbon. He entered Bradley University studying civil engineering, and was called back to the service for the Korean conflict, serving in the Air Force. On returning home he completed his studies at Bradley and graduated with a B.S. in civil engineering. He worked for the Illinois Division of Highways for two years, then worked for 36 years for the architectural and engineering firm of Sverdrup and Parcel, based in St. Louis, from which he retired in 1991. Frank was a member of the American Legion Effingham Post 120 for 66 years, Lions clubs in Tennessee and Florida, and St. David's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Eden Rainey, of 56 years of marriage; children, Patricia Ann (Earle) Stramoski of Greensboro, N.C., Suzanne Lynne (John)
Oro of Denver, Anne Helene (Michael) Fields of Greenville, N.C., and Richard Alan (Kathy) Rainey of Brandon, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Rainey Hobart.
