CHAMPAIGN —
Violet D. Roberts, 85, of Champaign, went to be with her loved ones in the presence of the Lord at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, 509 S. Mattis Ave., Champaign. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Jan. 23, at Owens Funeral Home, 101 N. Elm St., Champaign.
Violet was born Sept. 10, 1927, in rural Effingham County, the daughter of Albert and Louise (Traub) Mellendorf. She married Hobert Roberts on May 29, 1964, at St. John Lutheran Church in Champaign. He preceded her in death Aug. 27, 2009. Violet was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in Effingham, then transferred to Champaign. She retired in 1982 after 35 1/2 years. She enjoyed counted crossstitch, traveling with her husband Hobert and taking pictures. She and her husband enjoyed many winters in Florida. She also was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Champaign.
She is survived by one stepson, Hobert D. "Butch" Roberts of Monticello; one stepdaughter, Linda (Craig) Burgess of Junction City, Ore.; six stepgrandchildren; 12 great-stepgrandchildren; one great-stepgranddaughter; two great-great-stepgrandchildren; one sister, Jeri (Delbert) Mundt of Dieterich; one brother, Leroy (Natalie) Mellendorf of Effingham; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eugene, Harlan and Ardon; sister, Alberta Garbe; and two nephews.
