MATTOON —
Dale M. King, 87, of Mattoon, formerly of Jasper County, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Gowin Parc in Mattoon.
Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday at Crain Funeral Home, Newton. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Brockville Cemetery, rural Newton, with military rites by Jasper Post 20 of the American Legion. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Dale was born near Newton on April 4, 1925, the third son of Ona M. and Ella Evelyn "Eva" (Guerrettaz) King, brother of William M. and Daniel W. King.
Dale and Luella Maxine Miller, daughter of John and Reta Miller of Wheeler, were married June 12, 1952, by the Rev. Kenneth L. Brooks at the United Brethren Church in Robinson. God blessed Dale and Luella with two daughters and one son, Kandra Lynn Coleman and husband, Bert Coleman, of Woodstock, Ga., Brenda Dale Farrier and husband, Scott Farrier, of Mattoon, and David M. King of Mansfield, Ga. Luella passed away May 24, 1987.
Dale and Luella are also survived by two grandsons, Sloan William Farrier and fiancee, Ashley North, of Mattoon, and Scott Brandon Farrier of Mattoon; and brother, Daniel W. King and wife, Bonnie, of Wichita, Kan.
In addition to his wife, Dale was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William King.
Dale served his country during World War II from 1943 to 1946 with a Naval Air Squadron in the Pacific Theater.
He returned to Newton, where he graduated from Newton Community High School with the class of 1947.
He owned and operated D. M. King Advertising Co. before going to work with The General Electric Co., where he retired with more than 20 years of service.
Dale was a member of St. JohnÕs Lutheran Church of Mattoon and a former member of the VFW, Moose and Eagles.
