James R. Plumer, 72, of rural Toulon, died at 9:44 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at LaFayette United Methodist Church. Tom Keith and the Revs. Fred and Darlene Reiner will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Toulon Funeral Home, Toulon. Burial will be in West Jersey Cemetery, West Jersey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LaFayette United Methodist Church or Wyoming Volunteer Fire Department. Private condolences may be sent to the family via www.toulonfh.com.
Jim was born Sept. 25, 1940, in Peoria, the son of Donald Plumer and Grace Burdette Plumer Ruffner. He married Nancy Keith on Feb. 12, 1961, in Hanna City. Jim started farming in 1956 with his uncle Dean (Mary) Plumer of Hanna City. He started farming on his own in Elmwood in 1960 and moved to his current farm near West Jersey in 1966. He was founder and currently co-owner of a trucking enterprise. Jim also was an electrician for more than 20 years and was a member of the IBEW Local 34. He was a member of the LaFayette United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the administration board; and he also served three terms on the Toulon School Board.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years; two sons, Matthew (Connie) Plumer of Toulon, and Mark (Kim) Plumer of Wyoming; one daughter, Malia (Keith) Bucher of Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jake (Claudia) Plumer, Drew Plumer, Tiffany (Chad) Bell and Cassy Plumer; four great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Pat) Plumer of Tremont; two sisters, Janet (Bob) Poe of Teutopolis and Donna (Mike) McKeever of Jerome, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
