WARSAW, Mo. —
Charles Franklin Kirby, 70, passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at his home in Warsaw, Mo.
His body was cremated as he requested. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Warsaw First Baptist Church. A meal will be served after the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to Warsaw First Baptist Church or your local cancer society.
He was born May 13, 1942, in Orleans, Ind., son of Robert Harold and Mary Francis Slaten Kirby.
Frank graduated from Paoli High School in Paoli, Ind. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 1, 1961, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. After his discharge in 1965, he was employed with various utility engineering/construction firms. He started his career with Electricom in Paoli, Ind., and retired in 2006 from Utility Services Assoc. Const. Co., Inc. out of Oklahoma City. He then began driving a school bus for Benton Co. R-IX School District until June 2012.
He was a member of the Warsaw First Baptist Church, Warsaw VFW and Masonic Lodge in Willow Springs, Mo.
In 1973, he married Sherree Sowers in Montrose. They have resided in Warsaw for 34 years. To this union was born two children, a daughter Robin RedWing of Howell, Mich., and a son, Charles B. Kirby of Warsaw. In addition to these, he is also survived by two sons from a previous marriage, Doug and wife, Lisa Kirby, of Paolo, Ind., and James and wife, Cari Kirby, of French Lick, Ind. Also surviving are a stepfather, James and wife, Lia Mink, of Paoli, Ind.; four half brothers, Larry Mink of Paoli, Ind., Jim Kirby, Ralph Kirby and Paul Kirby, all of Salem, Ind., and one half sister, Janet Gibbons of Salem, Ind.; grandchildren, Elizabeth and husband, Travis Gilstrap, of Orleans, Ind., Kaitlyn, Austin and Alex RedWing, all of Howell, Mich., and Bryson Kirby of French Lick, Ind.; and one great-grandson, Ryder Gilstrap of Orleans, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gene Kirby from Warsaw, Mo., one sister, Vera Gilchrist from French Lick, Ind., and one half brother, Mike Kirby of Salem, Ind.
As a young man, Frank accepted Jesus as his Savior and as an adult, he reaffirmed his commitment. He loved the Lord and tried to show it in everything he did. Those who knew him will not soon forget him. Frank will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
