King Pickens

WHEELER —     King Lee "Corky" Pickens, age 66, of Wheeler, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at his home in Wheeler following several weeks of declining health.

    A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Latona Church of Christ, Wheeler, with the Rev. Nate Hagen and Robert Dukes officiating. Interment of cremated remains will be in the Trexler Cemetery, rural Newton, will follow the service. There will be no visitation. Memorial donations may be made to Lincolnland Hospice, 1004 Healthcare Drive, Suite 202, Mattoon, Illinois 61938; or to the Latona Church of Christ Youth, 9003 North 325th Street, Wheeler, Illinois 62479. Pulliam Funeral Homes of Robinson, is in charge of arrangements.

    Born May 7, 1946, in Effingham, he was the son of Rex Austin and Wilma Jean (Corbin) Pickens. On August 14, 1966, he married Rita May (Johnson) and she survives. Mr. Pickens was a retired pipeline welder for Local 798, Tulsa, Okla., and was a member of the Faith Fellowship Church, Hidalgo.

    Survivors include his wife, Rita May Pickens, Wheeler; a son and daughter-in-law, Rex Lee and Teresa Pickens, Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, RoxAnn and Frank Dhom, Newton; four grandchildren, Caelin Cole Dhom, Raelee Dhom, Dalton Pickens and Gunner Pickens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, L.D. and Martha Pickens, Newton; Rick and Jhonda Pickens, Newton; and several nieces and nephews.  

    Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, David Stanley Pickens and Richy Austin Pickens; and a sister, Kathleen Lynn Pickens.
