WHEELER —
Larry Lynn Jones, 73, of rural Wheeler, passed away peacefully at 1:58 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his home and went home to be with his Lord. Larry had battled a blood disorder for the past 15 years, and was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia six weeks ago.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Latona Church of Christ in Latona. A memorial service with Masonic rites and flag presentation will be at 3 p.m. with a meal immediate following. Private burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery, near Latona. In loving memory of Larry, memorials may be made to the Latona Church of Christ building fund. Arrangements are under the care of the Blake-Wright Funeral Home, Dieterich. Online condolences may be left at www.blakefh.com.
Larry was born Aug. 29, 1939, in South Muddy Township, Jasper County, the son of Clyde and Opal Lucillie (Bailey) Jones. He married the former Barbara Britton in 1959. He later married Patricia Marr Hibner on April 17, 2011, and she survives.
Larry served his county in the United States Army in 1957 and served in the National Reserves for six years. Larry worked at various construction jobs until being hired at the CIPS Power Plant, near Newton, where he retired after 28 years. He was a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge 216; 32 degree Mason and member of the Valley of Danville Consistory; Shriner and member of the Ainad Temple and Jasper County Shrine Club; the National Rifle Association; National Sporting Clays Association; and an honorary member of the Effingham Business and Professional Women’s Association, where he served as an auctioneer at its annual fundraiser for 12 years.
Larry was a farmer and a cattleman who loved the outdoors and country living. His idea of fun was quail and rabbit hunting with his dogs and dancing at Ste. Marie with his wife, Patricia, whom he met through his membership at the Lakewoods Flying Duck Sporting Clay Range. He also loved to travel to various shooting ranges and he has shot at 58 ranges nationwide. Larry was a lifetime member of the Latona Church of Christ. In recent years he passionately supported the building fund. Rather than flowers, Larry has requested that donations be made to the Latona Christian Church Building Fund.
Larry is survived by his wife, Patricia Jones of Wheeler; children, Sandra Lynn Jones of Belgrade, Mont., Allan Gale (Tammy) Jones of Newton, Larry Ray (Sarah) Jones of Wheeler, Greg (Kim) Hibner of Ankany, Iowa, Dwight (Lisa) Hibner of Baton Rouge, La., Rebecca (Doug) Koelle of Morris and Joycelyn (David) Elliott of Fairfield; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, MaDonna (Delbert) Bell of Paris and Marlene (Louis) Rieman of Wheeler; and several nieces and nephews.
