STEWARDSON —
Florence E. Figgins, 87, of Stewardson, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, in her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Strasburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kathy Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Lower Ash Grove Cemetery, near Strasburg. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg. Florence was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Michigan City, Ind., the daughter of Joseph and Clara Bexter Swiger. She was a housecleaner and then worked for the Stewardson-Strasburg Community School District as a cook for 27 years.
She was a member of Strasburg United Methodist Church. Florence was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Duke University basketball team. She married Garl F. Figgins on April 28, 1945, in Michigan City, Ind. He died on July 24, 1988.
She is survived by her son, Mac Figgins (wife, Debbie) of Strasburg; daughter, Sandra Bugenhagen of Mode; sister, Mary Patrick of Pratt, Kan.; grandchildren, Sheryl Vonderheide (husband, Rick) of Stewardson, Doug Rincker (wife, Marla) of Strasburg, Kathy Weston (husband, Garrett) of Towanda and Kelvin Figgins of Strasburg; granddaughter-in-law, Marilyn Figgins of Stewardson; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and three great-great-stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Garl; son-in-law, Carl Bugenhagen; two grandchildren, Fieldon James Figgins and in infancy, Kenneth Rincker; and nine brothers and sisters.
