Darrell Kuhns, 76 of rural Mason, entered eternal rest at 4:53 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, Edgewood, with burial following at St. Anne Cemetery, rural Mason. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church with a combination church and K of C Rosary at 2:45 p.m. followed by a prayer vigil. Memorials are requested to Altamont Education Foundation, Altamont School FFA Foundation, or donor’s choice.
Darrell was born May 26, 1936, in Clay County, the son of Henry J. and Mary A. (Verdeyen) Kuhns. He married Jean C. Bueker on Feb. 27, 1960, at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Sigel, and she preceded him on Nov. 28, 2008. Darrell was a farmer, life member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Edgewood, member of the Fourth Degree Knights of the Effingham Knights of Columbus. He served on Altamont School Board for 30 years, served as West Twp. Clerk, and was an adopted grandfather of the Sacred Heart School children. Darrell also served many church positions and was a member of multiple associations and clubs. He was also a past member of the Illinois National Guard.
Surviving are his sons, Steven (Sheila), Michael and Stanley (Shelly) Kuhns, all of Mason; daughter, Joyce (Greg) Webster, Mason; grandchildren, Bradley, Kyle, Jonathan, Benjamin, Jimmie, Maria, Avery and Emma; brother-in-laws, Gerald (Brenda) Bueker and Dennis (Donna) Bueker, all of Sigel, and Lloyd Brockett of Orlando, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Betty Kuhns, Edgewood.
In addition to his wife, Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry Jr., David, Gerald Kuhns and one in infancy; and sister, Wanda Brockett.
