Gerald Hemrich, 76, of Newton, passed away at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton, with the Rev. Al Kemme celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Newton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church and one hour before the Mass. Gerald was born on Jan. 10, 1937, in rural Newton, the son of Eugene and Theresa (Suess) Hemrich. He married Rosella Dhom on May 9, 1959, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton.
Gerald was a lifelong farmer and resident of Jasper County. He worked at Rex Vault in Newton for many years. Gerald was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Newton.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosella Hemrich of Newton; children, Connie (Dennis) Griffith of Ozark, Mo., Phyllis (Fred) Neu of Effingham, Roger (Sherrie) Hemrich of Ste. Marie, Bill (Amy) Hemrich of Sullivan, Randy (Linda) Hemrich of Newton, Brad Hemrich of Grantsville, Ga., Nick (Sarah) Hemrich of Newton, Teresa (Bruce) Ochs of Newton and Tracy (Scott) Blackwell of Effingham; sister, Joanne (Don) Ginder of Noblesville, Ind.; brother, Gene Hemrich of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Delores Hemrich of Olney and Matilda Hemrich of Newton; 24 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim and Delbert Hemrich.
