Roland Fear

TOLEDO — Roland Eugene “Gene” Fear, 80,  of Toledo, formerly of Neoga, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Cumberland Rehab and Health Care Center of Greenup.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, with the Rev. Jack Jenkins and the Rev. David Stovall, both of Toledo, officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Neoga Memorial Cemetery of Neoga, with military services conducted by the Cumberland County Veterans.     Gene was born in Jasper County, on Dec. 16, 1932, the son of Everett W. and E. Helen ( Dow ) Fear. Gene began his career in the United States Air Force on Aug. 15, 1951, deployed to duty in the Korean Conflict. He ended his duty to his country in 1972, after he was deployed to Viet Nam. During his service he was awarded many distinguished service metals. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Gene went to work selling cars. During the next 11 years, he worked for the Dan Hecht Chevrolet, Springer Chevrolet, Mitchell Chevrolet, retiring again in 1983.

    Gene was a 50-year member and Past Master of the Toledo Masonic Lodge, a 50-year member and Past Worthy Patron of the Toledo Eastern Star and a member of the Gulf Port Shriners club of Golf Port, Miss., a member of the Toledo American Legion Post 764. Gene was also a member of the First Apostolic Church in Toledo and The Buck Grove Community Church.

    Gene leaves his wife of 59 years, Barbara Fear of Toledo; one son, Steven Fear and wife Valerie of Gila; one daughter, Michelle Greeson and husband Kent of Toledo; one brother, Billy Fear of Neoga; one sister, Kathryn Owens and husband Hollis of Gautier, Miss.; six grandchildren, Brandi O’Dell and husband Scott of Neoga, Emmy Lou Iffertt and husband Darren, Joshua McBride and wife Scarlett, Stevie Finn and husband Phillip, Paige Huber and husband Mark, Everett Fear and wife Jenny; one step-grandson, Kyle Greeson; 10 great-grandchildren, Dillon Howard, Jake and Ivy Iffertt, Dakota, Hallie and Ross McBride, Ava and Caden Finn, Mack and Hank Huber and one more Fear expected in July.

    Gene was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Barbara June Russell, one half-brother, Harold Fear.

    Gene loved to travel and visited every state in the Union, except Alaska. He and his family traveled to many countries while stationed overseas with the USAF. He loved to watch and feed the birds, and he truly enjoyed hunting and owning and showing antique cars.
