EFFINGHAM —
Clarence "Blackie" Matthews, 91, of Effingham, passed away at 11:48 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham.

Clarence was born July 31, 1921, in Effingham, the son of William and Pearl (Wade) Matthews. He married Elsie Myers on July 1, 1947, in Effingham, and she survives. Blackie was a member of Funkhouser United Methodist Church, Funkhouser. He was a past member of the Effingham Moose Lodge. He was a self-employed carpenter and painter. He enjoyed mushroom and ginseng hunting. Blackie was a very caring and generous man.
Blackie is survived by his wife, Elsie Matthews of Effingham; daughter, Sharon Lytle of Jewett; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Judy Louise; four sisters; and two brothers.
