WEST YORK —
Gary David Matteson, 77, of rural West York, peacefully passed away Monday, March 4, 2013, in the comfort of his home.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. today, March 6, at Prust-Hosch Funeral Home, West Union, with the Rev. Paul Phillips officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Arbor Crest Cemetery, Effingham. Memorials may be made to Hutsonville Alumni Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Effingham, the son of Walter Matteson and LaVern Matthews Matteson. Gary was the superintendent of the Hutsonville School District from 1974-1992. He was also an avid golfer and St. Louis Cardinal fan.
He is survived by his children, Mary Beth and David (Carol), all of Palestine; three grandchildren, Cory (Jamie) McDaniel, Kacee McDaniel and Seth Matteson; three great-grandchildren, Payton, Makenzie and Madison McDaniel; and special friend, Virginia Hall.
