Ruth Johanna Clara Kroening-Beccue, 89, of Casey, went to be with her Lord at 4 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Ind., with her daughters at her side.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altamont, with the Rev. Mike Kasting officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Casey, with a special time of remembrance will be at 6 p.m. and one hour prior to the service time at the church. Kull Funeral Chapel in Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements. Ruth Johanna Clara Kroening-Beccue was born Jan. 28, 1923, in the Bethlehem Community, Effingham County, near Altamont. She was the daughter of George and Clara Buth-Kroening. Ruth was member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. After graduating from Altamont Community High with the class of 1942, she moved to Springfield to work at the First National Bank. While living in Springfield, she met Wilbert E. Beccue. Ruth and Wilbert were married on Oct. 12, 1947, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They spent most of their married life on a farm in rural Cumberland County. Together, they were blessed with four daughters, Joann, Donna, Nancy and Debra and were able to share 60 years of marriage. Besides being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Ruth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Casey, where she actively served as a Sunday school teacher, was a member of the Ladies Aid and of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She also enjoyed serving as a 4-H leader for 15 years, was an active member of home extension and especially enjoyed baking, decorating cakes, jigsaw puzzles and playing cards. For the last few years, Ruth lived at Simple Blessings in Casey, enjoying family and friends.
She is survived by four daughters, Joann Ruth (husband, Wayne) Muhs of Newton, Donna Kay (husband Dale) Busch of Terre Haute, Ind., Nancy Gail (husband Bill) Steele of Greenwood, Ind., Debra Jean (Angel) Buenrostro of Tallahassee, Fla.; one sister, Doris E. (husband, Calvin) Runge of Effingham; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six great grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara Buth-Kroening; husband, Wilbert E. Beccue; one sister, Lydia and her husband, Arthur M. Alwardt.
