Virginia Winter

Atoka, Tenn. — Virginia R. Winter, 93, of Atoka, Tenn., formerly of Newton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Millington Healthcare Center, Millington, Tenn.

    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crain Funeral Home, Newton, with the Rev. Tim Pearce officiating. P.E.O. funeral rites will be offered by the sister of Chapter FN. Entombment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newton. Visitation will be from noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.crainfuneral.com.

    Virginia was born Oct. 27, 1919, in Ste. Marie, the daughter of Merle and Nina (Zerkel) Yost. On May 6, 1943, Virginia married Homer Howard Winter in New York. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2009. Virginia was an elementary school teacher, having taught at Newton Elementary. Her memberships included the Grace United Methodist Church, Chapter FN of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the Order of the Eastern Star No. 497.  

    Virginia will be loved and remembered by her son, Howard Winter, wife Lorre, of Salem; daughter, Joyce Garlock, husband Bill, of Atoka, Tenn.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Wilma Jean Stauffer of  Las Vegas.

    Her parents; husband; and brother, Sam Yost; preceded her in death.

Memorial gifts for Virginia may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
