EFFINGHAM —
David C. Herman, 84, of Effingham, passed away at 9:43 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Effingham, with the Rev. Roger Marshall officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Gideons. David was born on Dec. 15, 1928, in Dover, Ohio, the son of Clarence N. and Eva E. (Maurer) Herman. He married Virginia Wengert on May 26, 1951, in Webster Groves, Mo., and she preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 2010. David was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Effingham. He served as a deacon in all his home churches. David and his wife, Virginia, volunteered with Campers on Mission and they also volunteered as greeters at The Cross in Effingham. He retired as a field representative from Mid-America Dairyman. He enjoyed spending time outdoors.
David is survived by his children, Steve (Pam) Herman of Tucson, Ariz., Linda (Richard) Williamson of Oronoco, Minn., Ken (Chris) Herman of Buckeye, Ariz., Dan (Kally) Herman of Marion, Texas, and Kathy (John) Nava-Sifuentes of Effingham; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Herman of Columbia, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; grandson, Nathan Nava-Sifuentes; and a brother, Donald Herman.
