Homer Phillips, 98, of Greenup, formerly of Neoga, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the Cumberland Rehab and Health Care, Greenup.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sigel, with the Rev. Gary Fortkamp officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Sigel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sigel. Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, is in charge of arrangements. Homer was born Nov. 12, 1914, in Hampton, Iowa, the son of Arvey and Grace Agnes (Gardner) Phillips. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Sigel, and he was a retired farmer and carpenter. Homer married Alice Clara Snodgrass, July 20, 1941, and Mrs. Phillips passed away July 3, 2006.
Mr. Phillips leaves two sons, Ronald Duane Phillips and wife, Carolyn, of rural Toledo, and Dennis Merl Phillips and wife, Sherri, of Glade Park, Colo.; one daughter, Beth Elaine Larson and husband, Gary, of rural Neoga; two sisters, Beulah Newman of Mahomet, and Olive Stiebner of rural Neoga; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Phillips of Neoga, and Evelyn Farero and husband, Bernard, of Effingham; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice Clara Phillips; two brothers; and three sisters.
