STEWARDSON —
Wesley Bruce Koontz, 98, died Jan. 14, 2013, at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 16, at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Stewardson Veterans Memorial or to the donor's choice.
Wesley was born May 8, 1914, in Mode. He was the son of Bruce and Metta Hoagland Koontz and was a lifelong farmer. Wesley attended Old Mode School through eighth grade. He worked in 1942 in Detroit in the automobile industry as a milling machine operator and served in the Army during World War II, working as a photo lab technician. After his service, he came back and worked the farm with his family until he was 94 years old.
He is survived by his sister, Mildred Koontz of rural Mode. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Steve (Barbara) Morrison of Kewanee, Dennis Morrison of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Linda (Mike) McFarland of Mattoon, Cindy (Lyle) Karsten of Newton, Iowa, Richard (Diane) Koontz of Norcross, Ga., Tom Gerhard, John (Eileen) Gerhard and Arthur (Julie) Gerhard, all living in Missouri. He is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews, as well as several great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded death by his parents; sisters, Geneva Beyer, Bernice Gerhard and Verna Morrison; brothers, William, Gwen and Earl Koontz; and nephew, Roger (Rosemary) Morrison in 2010.
