STRASBURG —
Silas M. Boyer, 96, of Strasburg, died at 8:10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Heartland Christian Village, Neoga.
Funeral services will be held at 11 Monday at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Richard Eident officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by Greenland Masonic Lodge 665 of Beecher City at 9:30 a.m. Monday, followed by visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery, Strasburg, with military rites by Strasburg American Legion Post 289. Memorials may be made to Windsor Christian Church or Heartland Christian Village, Neoga. Mr. Boyer was born June 3, 1916, in Linton, Ind., the son of Clinton Daniel and Katherine Elizabeth Heineman Boyer. He graduated from high school in Patricksburg, Ind.
Silas then entered the U. S. Army in 1941 and was a veteran of World War II. He was a meat cutter for Yakey's and Wente's in Stewardson and later for Shanks in Mattoon and the Masonic Home in Sullivan. He was a member of Windsor Christian Church, Strasburg American Legion Post 289 and Greenland Masonic Lodge 665 of Beecher City. Silas was a former member of the Strasburg Lions Club.
He enjoyed gardening, ballroom dancing and playing the saxophone, violin and harmonica. He married Maxine B. Price on Sept. 27, 1943, in Indianapolis. She died on May 13, 1998.
He is survived by his daughters, Marcella Cardinal (husband, Gary) of Plainfield and Katherine Manhart (husband, Noel) of Strasburg; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; two brothers, Roger and Paul Boyer; and one sister, Bernice Boyer.
