Steven Koehler Jr.

BEECHER CITY — Steven O. Koehler Sr., 58, of rural Beecher City passed away at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, in his home.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Kaskaskia Church with the Rev. Ken Fookes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church with an 8 p.m. Masonic rites service, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Memorials are requested to Kaskaskia Church or St. Elmo Cub Scouts Pack 444.

    Steve was born May 19, 1953, in Springfield, to John Norman and Melba Ann (Wyzard) Koehler. He married Darlene Daugherty on Sept. 11, 1982, in Springfield.

    Steve was a 1971 graduate of Lanphier High School, Springfield. He served stateside during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from Pillsbury in Murfreesboro, Tenn.; he owned and operated Savannah’s Antique Mall in Altamont; and was currently serving as the Emergency Management Agency coordinator for Fayette County.

    While living in Tennessee, he was a very active Scout Leader in the “Trail of Tears Council.” Steve was a member and Past Master of St. Elmo Masonic Lodge 769, a member of Altamont Masonic Lodge 533 and the St. Elmo American Legion Post 715.

    He is survived by his father, John of Quincy; his wife, Darlene; sons, Steven (wife, Shannon) Koehler Jr., Scott (companion, Holly Haynes) Koehler of Hendersonville, N.C., and Matthew (wife, Erin) Koehler; grandchildren, Savannah of R.A.F. Lakenheath near Brandon, United Kingdom, and Sydney of Watson; brother, Brad (wife, Brenda) Koehler of West Liberty; nephew, Jason (wife, Alliscia) Koehler of Macon; nieces, Amanda (husband, Craig) Glos of Joliet and Cassandra (husband, Shane) Kurpiel of Ste. Marie; stepbrothers, Dana (wife, Annie) Myers of Quincy and Steve (wife, Julie) Myers of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; stepsister, Rebecca (husband, Randy) Goerlich of Tucson, Ariz.; mother-in-law Ida Daugherty of Ramsey; and brother-in-law, Rich (wife, Lynn) Daugherty of Ramsey.

    He was preceded in death by his mother Melba; stepmother, Betty; grandparents; and father-in-law, Richard Daugherty.
