SULLIVAN —
Ralph E. “Red” Elzy, 86, of Edgewood, formerly of Sullivan, passed away 7:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Hilltop Nursing Home, Charleston.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hilltop Nursing Home, Charleston. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mcmullinyoung.com.
Red was born Dec. 25, 1926, in Sullivan, the son of Delmar and Minnie (Kidwell) Elzy. He married Antonia Kubovics in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1981. He married Barbara J. Harris on Feb. 10, 1989. Red was an Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from Earl Walker Co. as a truck driver. Red was an avid bowler and fisherman. He enjoyed wood working and hunting mushrooms. He loved to spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Edgewood; stepsons, Dale (Sue) Harris of Newton, James (Betty) Harris of Willow Hill and Kenny (Anne) Harris of Effingham; stepdaughters, Cheryl (Kevin) Mesnard of Edgewood, Lynn Yocum of Edgewood and Jodi Harris and special friend, Eddie Higgs, of Mason; brothers, Everett (Doris) Elzy of Alton, Mo., Kenneth (Geraldine) Elzy of Gainsville, Texas, Gale (Charlene) Elzy of Sullivan and Marshall (Kathy) Elzy of Sullivan; sisters, Inna Pickel of Sullivan and Darlene (Cecil) Burgess of Sullivan; sister-in-law, Diane Elzy of Westfield; 17 stepgrandchildren, 23 great-stepgrandchildren and one great-great-stepgrandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dean; two infant siblings; and two stepdaughters.
