MATTOON —
Yvette Jeannine Hatten, 76, of rural Mattoon, passed away at 1:08 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, in her residence.
Yvette was born March 29, 1936, in Tousson City, France, the daughter of Emile Alfred Joseph and Alina Irma Louise (Vanoverberghe) Philippart. Yvette married Odis Eugene Hatten, Jr., Nov. 6, 1953, in Perthes-En-Gatinais, France. She was employed at the Neoga Garment Factory from 1957 to 1969. She retired from General Electric of Mattoon, after 38 years.
She leaves her husband Odis E. Hatten, Jr., of rural Mattoon; three daughters, Marilyn J. Fowler and husband Charles, rural Toledo, Melinda M. Zellers and husband Clyde, Springfield, and Michelle A. Jones, Mattoon; two brothers, Claude Philippart and wife Annick, Soisy sur Ecole, France, and Michel Philippart and wife Francoise, Sivry Courtry, France; two grandchildren, Angie Young and husband Andy, Springfield, and Alston Shane Jones, Mattoon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Albert, Pierre and Jean-Pierre Philippart.
Yvette moved to the United States in 1957 and was self taught English. She always looked forward to vacations in France to visit with her family. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Angie and Shane. Yvette would always make sure that everyone around her was taken care of and comfortable. She would have given food to a stranger. She was always taking care of all the stray kittens on the farm. Yvette was a kind and gentle person that truly loved her family. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Fund.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Mattoon, with the Rev. Dennis Kollross, officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home, Neoga. Online condolences may be expressed at swengel-odell.com.
