EFFINGHAM —
Monette M. Marvel, 97, of Effingham, went to be with her Lord Tuesday morning, Feb. 19, 2013, at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Effingham, with the Rev. Drew Holloway officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Hanna Cemetery, Noble. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham, is in charge of arrangements. Monette was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Thompsonville, the daughter of Lawrence and Grace (Vincent) White. Her family moved to Gary, Ind., in 1922 to find work. Monette met her husband, Berlyn A. Marvel, and they were married on Nov. 8, 1934, in Hammond, Ind., and he preceded her in death. For 46 years, they raised their family in Gary until leaving in 1968.
Survivors include daughter, Carmen Lee Yates of Elizabethton, Tenn.; son, Russell (Sharon) Marvel of Effingham; five grandchildren, Barbara Marvel, David (Lisa) Yates, Greg Yates, Todd (Marsha) Marvel and Jeno (partner, Kim) Marvel; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kristen and Erin Martin, Jessi (Matt) Yates Rasnick, Leo Yates, Jessica Baird, Jarrett and Kara Marvel, Jackson and Jace Marvel-Morse and Noelle Morse.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Berlyn; son and daughter-in-law, James Arthur (Pauline) Marvel; grandson, Kenneth Marvel; four brothers, Carl, Earl, Adrian and Lowell White; and sister, Ruth White.
