ALTAMONT —
Iolene D. Ellis, 89, of Altamont, died at 6:36 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Altamont, with the Rev. Willie Deuel officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, is in charge of arrangements. Iolene Doris Davis was born on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 1923, in Altamont, to John and Mary (Kramer) Davis. She married Charles W. Ellis on July 21, 1945. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2004. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Altamont, serving in the past as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher and as Sunday School Superintendent. As well as being a homemaker, she was active in the Republican Women, served as a Railroad Watching Guard, was employed at the Altamont Garment Factory and had been a telephone operator. A stranger to no one, at least not for long, she was the “president” of the McDonald’s Social Club of Altamont.
Iolene is survived by her son, Robert Ellis and his wife, Bonita, of Greenview; daughters, Linda Potts and her husband, Jon, of Altamont and Donna Bueker and her husband, Dennis, of Sigel; her grandchildren, Todd Ragel of Sarasota, Fla., Tasha Dial and her husband, Todd, of St. Elmo, Scott Bueker and his wife, Peggy, of Sigel, Nicole Sathoff and her husband, Charles, of Oakford, Tonya Mersman and her husband, Dan, of Effingham, James Ellis and his wife, Melony, of Oakford; 14 great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Landon, Brock, Brant, Sadie, Hope, Nora Iolene, Brooke, Blake, Jack, Jacob, Kyle, Madigan and Abigail.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, three sisters and three great-grandchildren.
