ALTAMONT —
Bettie Mae Taphorn, 78, of rural Altamont, died at 3 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at her home.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont, with the Rev. Joseph Simburger officiating. Burial will be in St. Clare Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, with a 5 p.m. rosary service. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Bettie was born on Nov. 10, 1934, in Decatur, to Louis and Ruth (Watson) Brand. She married Robert Taphorn on Feb. 27, 1965, at St. James Catholic Church, Decatur. She was a beautician in Decatur for 10 years and was a home health care provider for 20 years, as well as being a homemaker. She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church and had been involved with the St. Clare Altar Society.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Warren Taphorn of Beecher City and Gerald Taphorn of Altamont; daughter, Mindy Taphorn of Altamont; sisters, Ruth Austin of Decatur, Patsy Ehrhart (Jim) of Des Plaines, Judie Davis (Stan) of Decatur; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Mary Lou Brand.
