Paul E. McCullough, 87, of Greenup, passed away at 12:56 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Graveside memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Greenup Cemetery with military rites by Cumberland County Veterans. Barkley Funeral Chapel, Greenup, is assisting the family with arrangements. Friends and family are invited to the First Southern Baptist Church in Greenup following the graveside services for a meal and fellowship. Paul was born Oct. 15, 1925, in Casey, to Virgil ÒDidÓ and Maudaline (Matheny) McCullough. He married Angela Marrs and then married Cindy Jane Judson. Paul proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II. He worked in the oil fields for M & E Drilling for 17 years; he was superintendent of utilities for the city of Greenup for many years and retired from Eastern Illinois University building services in 1991.
For many years, Paul always coached his son's baseball teams and was very civic minded in being a Greenup volunteer fireman. He was a life member and past commander of both the Greenup American Legion Post 566 and the Greenup VFW Post 4598. He was a past member of the Cumberland County Sportsman's Club, was an avid Cumberland County pool league player for many years, he loved to go fishing and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Paul will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew this man.
He is survived by Cindy Jane, his loving and caring wife of 37 years; sons, Gary (wife, Denise) McCullough of Taylorville, and David (wife, Dawn) McCullough of Las Vegas; brothers, John (wife, Betty) McCullough of Leesburg, Fla., and Joe (wife, Fran) McCullough of Latham; grandchildren, Jacki (husband, Steve) Slightom of Auburn, Kristi (husband, Stan) McTaggart of Pawnee, Tad (wife, Kara) McCullough of Taylorville and Kate (husband, Mike) Davidson of Portland, Ore.; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Max McCullough; sister, Shirley Ann; and stepfather, Vic Hunt.
