NEWTON —
Kathleen T. Scanlan, 81, of Newton, passed away at 12:09 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham, surrounded by her children.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, Newton, with the Rev. David McNabb officiating. Burial will be in Brick Cemetery, north of Newton. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services at the church. Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton, is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.blakefh.com.
Kathleen was born Dec. 31, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the daughter of Frank and Doris Thompson. She attended Oklahoma State where she met her husband William E. Scanlan of Newton. They married on July 21, 1950, in Oklahoma City, Okla. After 45 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1995. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing and playing bridge with friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda and husband Warren Tarr, daughter, Barb and husband Tom Netzer; son, Brent Scanlan and wife Cheryl, son, David Scanlan; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings; and her son, Greg. Kathleen will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
