Erma A. Lewis, 96, Urbana, formerly of Bible Grove and Effingham, passed away peacefully at 7:21 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Helia Healthcare, Champaign.
Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with the Rev. Curtis L.E. Graves officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home. Private family graveside services will follow in Floral Garden of Memories, near Flora. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Provena Hospice Champaign, 1501 Interstate Drive, Suite C, Champaign, IL, 61822, or donor’s choice. Erma was born on Oct. 19, 1916, in Farina, the daughter of James Harrison and Ethel (Harper) Connerly. She married Lindall N. Lewis on Sept. 29, 1937, and he preceded her in death on April 5, 1962. Erma was a member of the Old Union Church of Christ in Bible Grove, and she attended the Effingham Church of Christ on South Fourth Street for many years. She was a homemaker most of her life in Clay County. She worked for a short time at the Victory Beauty Shop in Effingham and as a housekeeper to a wonderful couple in Effingham. Erma lived on a farm in Bible Grove with her husband, Lindall, for many years. She moved to Effingham in 1965 and then to Urbana in 2008.
Erma is survived by her children, Lindall D. (Jane Wattles) Lewis of Effingham, Sandra C. Gordon of Urbana, and Phillip L. (Connie Heiden) Lewis of Louisville; grandchildren, Carla (Keith) Heuermann, Jeffery (Sandi) Lewis, Brian (Kimberly) Lewis, Jodi (Justin) Newby, Lisa (Christopher) Cafin, and Kimberly (David) Guffey; great-grandchildren, Cory (Gina) Heuermann, Kristen (Tim) Stork, Jami (Curt) Davis, Zachary Lewis, Elizabeth Lewis, Victor Lewis, Gretchen Lewis, Ari Lewis, Deric (Sarah) Newby, Aaron Newby, Kiersten Cafin, Danielle Cafin, Kyndal Cafin, Kendra Guffey, and Matthew Guffey; great-great-grandchildren, Breta Heuermann, Gannon Stork, Alexi Stork, Ashlyn Davis, Taylor Davis, and one due in December. She also leaves cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and many friends and loved ones whom she loved very much. She will be missed and held in our hearts forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lindall; daughter, Pamela Kay Lewis; granddaughter, Mary Ann Lewis; brothers, Leonard Connerly and Richard Connerly; and son-in-law, Charles David Gordon.
