Marilyn was born on Sept. 29, 1941, in Lucas Township, Effingham County, the daughter of Crawford Lowell “Barney” Higgins and Ellen (Boerngen) Higgins. She married James Davis on June 7, 1960, in Dieterich and he survives.
Marilyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She retired from the Dieterich school system, where she was a cook for more than 30 years. Marilyn was a strong and devoted Christian and was a member of the Winterrowd Christian Church. She was a former member of the Elliottstown Church of Christ until it closed in 1994. She was very generous and hard working — always willing to help, whether it was playing the piano at church or helping others in a time of need. Marilyn enjoyed cooking for her family every Sunday, gardening, flowers, traveling, bowling, painting, crafts, crocheting and playing the piano.
Marilyn is survived by her loving family, husband of 52 years, James Davis of Dieterich; three sons, Kevin (Sandy) Davis of Dieterich, Tim (Courtney) Davis of Louisville, Kelly (Loretta) Davis of Dieterich;
six grandchildren, Jimmy, Melissa and Isaac, children of Kelly and Loretta Davis; Aaron and Eddie, sons of Kevin and Sandy Davis; and Crawford Davis, son of Tim and Courtney Davis.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Janet Gossman and one in infancy.
