Bernard H. Bierman, 93, of rural Effingham (Bishop Creek area), went to be with the Lord Saturday evening, Dec. 8, 2012, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
A Mass of Christian burial for Bernard will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, rural Dieterich (Bishop Creek). Burial will be in St. Aloysius Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a parish wake service at 6 p.m. and a K of C rosary immediately following. Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the donor’s choice. Bernard was born on April 9, 1919, in Effingham County, the son of Henry and Theresa (Goeckner) Bierman. He married Mildred L. Schutte on Oct. 29, 1947, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Sigel, and she preceded him in death on March 29, 2011. Bernard was a lifelong farmer and also worked as a mechanic at Crossroads Truck Equipment. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and St. Isidore Parish, Bishop Creek, also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2874, Teutopolis.
Survivors include Jane (Bob) Ordner, Clete (Ruth) Bierman, Mary (David) Niemerg, Gerard (Carla) Bierman, Mike (Mary Jo) Bierman, Tony (Wilma) Bierman, Geralyn (Allen) Koester, Barbara (Steve) Hutmacher, Bernice (Jerry) Sandschafer, Steve (Diane) Bierman and Jeanette (Joe) Runde; brother, Harry Bierman; sister, Mildred Koester; brothers-in-law, Ralph Emmerich and Clarence (Arlene) Schutte; 44 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; grandchildren, Keith Koester and Kristen Hutmacher; parents, four sisters and two brothers.
