HUTSONVILLE —
William "Bill" R. Mehler, 86, of rural Hutsonville, died at 12:18 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson, with the Rev. Lois Jean Bonesteel officiating. The Rev. Charles Rains is the honorary minister. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Military graveside services will be conducted by the combined units of the Palestine AmVets Post 33, Robinson VFW Post 4549, Robinson American Legion Post 69, and Flat Rock American Legion Post 132. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or to the Shriner's Hospital with envelopes available at the funeral home. He was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Hutsonville, the son of Albert "Bert" Mehler and Gretchen Maddox Mehler. Bill served in the U. S. Army and was a farmer. He was a lifetime member of the Robinson American Legion Post 69, a member of the VFW Post 4549, former member of the Robinson Moose Lodge and a member of the Oak Grove Church, rural Palestine. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports. Bill married Maxine Hockett Aug. 17, 1948, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 2001.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Louise Caldwell and Wilma Mehler; and one brother, Randall Mehler.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Gretchen and Dick Wilk, Toni Mehler, Mona and Don Wernz, P. K. and Garry Stepp, Lou Brinkman and friend Sam Durbin; and Jeff and Tracy Mehler; grandchildren, Krista and Steve Bolton, Mike and Tonya Wilk, Randall and Ashley Wilk, Kendra Welk, Tabitha and Mike Knecht, Dustin and Julia Wernz, Pierce and Rachael Stepp, Emerson Stepp, Ramsay Stepp, Brandy Murray, Tyler and Katelin Mehler, Robert Villa and friend Kayla Reinbold, Ricki Brinkman, Kircie Brinkman, Kindal Wernz and friend, Mike Kavista, Jacob Mehler, Logan and Sammie Mehler, Lucas Mehler, Mike Villa, Barbie and Juan Escobedo; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol and Bob Bement; as well as several nieces and nephews.
