ALTAMONT —
Vera A. Verdeyen, 82, of Altamont, died at 7:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 3, at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, with the Rev. Sunder Ery officiating. Burial will be in at Arborcrest Memorial Park, rural Effingham. Vera was born on Feb. 12, 1930, in Effingham, the daughter of Glenn and Lillian (Peterson) Siddens. She married Robert W. Verdeyen on Sept. 11, 1948, and he preceded her in death on April 6, 1987.
She was affiliated with the Catholic church. She had been employed with the Altamont Garment Factory, Altamont IGA and with the Days Inn, Effingham, as well as being a homemaker.
She is survived by her children: son, James (Susan) Verdeyen of Altamont; daughters, Diane (Robert) Cullom of Altamont and Nancy (Chuck) Schmidt of Mason; sister, Oma (Mervin) Ruff of Altamont; grandchildren, Robby (Ericka) Dowds of Snyder, Texas, Penny Dowds and friend Rodney Mislan of Effingham, Jason (Steffany) Cullom of Warrenton, Mo., Justin Cullom of Columbia, Mo., Shannon (Chad) Mayfield of Brownstown, Scott Verdeyen, Travis (Kelly) Stone, Mandy (Jamie) Christy, Erich Schmidt and special friend Ashlyn Duckwitz, all of Altamont; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Andrea Calhoun; and one granddaughter, Sherry.
