SHUMWAY — Marcella Lillie Ramsey, 94, of Shumway, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Effingham.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today, March 18, in Ramsey Cemetery, near Effingham. The Rev. Jason Rensner will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon today at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson. Memorials may be made to the Effingham County Humane Society. Marcella was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Effingham County, the daughter of Edgar and Mary Bales Ramsey. She graduated from Effingham High School in the class of 1936. Marcella was a switchboard operator of the first telephone company that provided service to the Shumway area. Later, she worked as a caregiver to people who were in need of her loving assistance. Marcella was affiliated with First Christian Church of Effingham, and later with First Christian Church of Stewardson. She enjoyed listening to the radio, relaxing on her front porch and gardening. She loved all animals (especially dogs).
Sur-viving are niece and nephew, Judy (Dave) Carroll of Beecher City, and Bill Antrim of Shumway, both of whom always loved her and looked after her needs; special neighbor, Phyllis Bernhard; loving friend, Kelly Connours and faithful canine companion, “Patch.”
