EFFINGHAM —
Frederick (Fred) Roy Reimers, 93, of Effingham, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, after a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 12, in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, Oakwood Memorial Park, Ottawa, with the Rev. Garry Briesacher, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ottawa, officiating. Full military rites will follow, with burial in Oakwood Memorial Park. Arrangements are through the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. The online guestbook may be viewed and remembrances shared at www.MuellerFH.com.
Fred was born July 28, 1919, in Milwaukee, to Roy and Helen Rittmann Reimers. He married Betty Hamilton of Paris, Ill., in June 1950. He served his country in World War II in the Army Signal Corps in the Aleutian Islands. After the war, he operated LaSalle County Foods and was a traveling salesman. In retirement, he was a long time employee of Sierra Motors in Ottawa and spent many days at antique car shows. He truly enjoyed his time at Uphill Grind Cycle & Fitness in Effingham, where he had many friends. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ottawa; Lions Club member and past president; Elks Club member, Moose Club member and a member of the Cadillac/LaSalle Club. He was a resident of Brookstone Estates, Effingham, and a resident of Heartland Christian Village, Neoga.
Surviving are his children, Dick (Deborah) Reimers of Effingham and Barbara Reimers of St. Charles; one grandchild, Laura Reimers of Champaign; and three stepgrandchildren, Scott Mahon of Downers Grove, Steven Mahon of Oak Lawn and Stacia Mahon Chaplin of Chambersburg, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hamilton Reimers; his brother, Robert Reimers; and his sister, Lois Evans.
