STEWARDSON —
Bertha J. (Rincker) Totten, 79, of Catlin, formerly of Strasburg, died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, in Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Rincker Cemetery, near Stewardson, with the Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Strasburg. Memorials may be given to the Rincker Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.howeandyockey.com.
Bertha was born on April 9, 1933, in Mode, the daughter of Vernon Martin and Esther LaVaughn Gillespey Rincker. She graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1951 and received her Bachelor of Arts in religion in 1955 from Eureka College. Bertha continued her education at Eastern Illinois University, where she majored in geography and earned her Master of Science in education in 1973. She was a junior high and high school English and geography teacher. She married Donald L. Bailey in August 1955. She later married J. Howard Totten in November 1971. He died in September 1989.
She is survived by her son, Mitchell L. Bailey and wife, Sandy, of Catlin; daughter, Marla Sollars of Westville; three brothers; four sisters; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a special one that she claimed as a great-granddaughter.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband; and one brother.
