Ann Huelskoetter, 75, of Effingham, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at her home in Effingham.

Condolences may be left at www.hallfuneralchapel.com.
Ann was born Aug. 31, 1937, in Shelby County, the daughter of Cal and Lila (Prater) Dunaway. She graduated from Cowden High School in 1955. Then she graduated from Greenville College in 1959 with a B.A. In the summer of 1959, she took an educational tour of Europe and 11 other countries for five weeks. In 1965, she received her Masters of Education at the University of Illinois. Then she had 54 semester hours beyond her Master’s Degree at University of Illinois, University of Louisville, and Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. In 1960, Ann was one of 50 high school counselors selected from an 11 state area for a General Electric Fellowship at the University of Louisville and part time she spent at the General Electric Appliance Park and took classes at the University of Louisville. In her professional career, she had 25 1/2 years in education. She taught at MacArthur High School, Decatur, in English for six years, Champaign High School as a counselor for one year, Evanston Township High School as a counselor for one year, Vandalia High School as a Guidance Director for one year, Belleville West High School as a counselor for 16 1/2 years, and retired in January 1985. On Jan. 5, 1985, she married Dr. Delbert G. Huelskoetter in Fairview Heights, and he survives. She enjoyed renovating and decorating a Victorian home, the Methodist Church, and the Lutheran Care Center, all in Altamont, and making them more beautiful. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Effingham, since April 12, 1992, the Altamont Garden Club, and many professional organizations. Her interests include mission trips, teaching Sunday school, interior design, tennis, traveling, flower gardening and Christmas decorating. Her motto was “Let’s see what there is to see, because we may never be back again.” Her deepest regret, even though Ann accepted Christ as a child, she did not live for the Lord for several years of her adult life. God was gracious. Ann had a passion for missions which resulted in several short term mission trips. In 1992, she toured Russia with Josh McDowell, in 1993, she toured China and the Philippines, and in 2000, she toured Egypt. In 1997, she toured Ecuador; 1999, toured Kazakhstan; and in 2000, toured Honduras and India on a medical missions trip with Dr. Huelskoetter. She volunteered at Life Action Ministries for over three years and at the World Missionary Press, which prints scripture booklets in many languages. She often left gospel tracks in hotel rooms during spring break in Daytona Beach, Fla. She remembered she had about 100 Billy Graham tracts and so Ann and Doc passed them out to young people cruising the streets. Only one or two would not accept them.
Survivors include husband, Delbert; brothers, William K. (Gladys) Dunaway of Shelbyville, Donald L. (Ruby) Dunaway of Cowden; sister-in-law, Bettnia Dunaway of Cowden; stepchildren, Caroline (Robert) Harder, Matthew (Sue) Huelskoetter of Salem, Heidi (Tony) Higgins of Atlanta, Ga.; three stepdaughters; one stepson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Banning; brother-in-law, Lonnie Banning; brother, Carroll Dunaway; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Dunaway and Mabel Flesch; nephew, Johnny Banning; and one great-niece, Abby Jo Ellis.
