ST. ELMO —
Revis D. Calvert, 84, of St. Elmo, died at 4:40 p.m Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Voelker Home For Seniors, Mason.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown with Pee Wee Denton officiating. Military rites by American Legion Post 420 will follow. Private family burial will be at a later date in Maplewood Cemetery, St. Elmo. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Revis was born Sept. 17, 1928, in Edgewood, to Orlando and Thelma (Haslett) Calvert. He had been employed with Claypool Drilling and was the retired owner/operator of Calvert Well Service. He spent 30 years in food concessions at area fairs and festivals and for Hannagan Auction Co. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Avena. He served in the Army from 1950-1952 in Korea. He was a life member of Weakly-Rowland American Legion Post 420, St. Elmo, and a member of Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger VFW Post 7676, Altamont. He was a co-founder of the St. Elmo Improvement Association. He was an organizer of the Band Day parades and a member of and instrumental in the St. Elmo Save Our Pool Committee. He also very much enjoyed dancing. He married Marilyn Brown on June 5, 1955, in St. Elmo, and she survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Daryl (Don) Reed of St. Elmo; brothers, Ralph (Debbie) Calvert of Coffeen and Don (Joyce) Calvert of DuQuoin; grandchildren, Jaimee (Kris) Blankenship, Krysta (Larry) Tish and Revis Reed; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Madalynn, Jaxson, Torin and Corrigan; and special friends, Bart and Trouble.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jim Calvert; and daughter-in-law, Karen Calvert.
