URBANA —
Roger Dean Greear, 79, of Urbana, passed away at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Edgewood Cemetery, Edgewood. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Barry West will officiate both the funeral and the graveside service. Military rites will be accorded by Edgewood American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made in Roger's honor to the Sidney Christian Church Youth Fund. Mr. Greear was born Dec. 15, 1933, in Edgewood, to parents William R. and Iva (Sapp) Greear. He married Rose Juanita Doublin on Nov. 11, 1961, in Urbana. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2011.
Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired as a painter and drywall finisher after working for Creative Builders, C.A. Petry and Sons and Carter Construction Services. He was a member of Sidney Christian Church, IUPAT Industry Painters Local 363 Union, Champaign and Urbana American Legion.
Roger was a kind man who loved his family and friends dearly. He enjoyed frequenting Menard's and working on building projects, but most of all, he loved worshipping at his church and loved the Lord with all his heart.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Zara (Vincent) of Urbana; sons, William Thomas (Sylvia) of Urbana and Billy Joe Taylor of Springfield; brothers, Donald Greear (Barbara) of Alabama, Patrick Greear of Edgewood and Texas Greear (Sharon) of Urbana; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lee S. Greear, Avon "Joe" Greear, Dale Greear and Larry Greear; and sisters, Yvonne White, Goldie Webster and Avis Greear.
