Robert J. Perkinton, 91, of Springfield, died at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Staab Funeral Home with the Rev. James Hennig and Rev. Michael Koschmann officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church or AlzheimerÕs Association - Greater Illinois Chapter. He was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Lincoln, Neb., to Joseph and Florence Jane Bellairs Perkinton. Robert married Mabel Rincker on July 2, 1950.
Robert had previously resided in Petersburg. He graduated from Springfield High School and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. He worked as a U.S. postal clerk and retired in 1984 after 19 years of service.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Springfield Barber Shop Chorus, American Legion Post 198, NARFE and AARP.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Rick) Claycomb and Kathy (Joe) Macklin, both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Melinda Jo, Rebecca Lynn, Philip, James Johnathan and Mark Joseph; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
His wife, one sister Doris Belair, and two brothers Clifford and LeRoy preceded him in death.
