Rhonda Haythorne crosses 3rd Street Friday after school released at St. Anthony Grade School. Beginning next school year, the city of Effingham will no longer oversee the crossing guard program, something it has overseen since 1977. Haythorne, who has been a crossing guard for six years, says she loves her job. "I always treat all these kids like they're my own," she said.
